Vote now for student videos in Summit’s Project Teen Money
Annual financial challenge teaches skills, awards scholarships to high schoolers
MADISON, Wis. (April 4, 2022) — Madison can vote for videos made by students from area high schools starting today in Summit Credit Union’s ninth annual Project Teen Money program, a competition that encourages financial education.
Students from three area high schools seek top votes for a series of three videos. In each 60- to 90-second video, participants will educate their peers with smart tips around saving, spending and identifying money scams. Parents, students and other fans from the community can vote for video submissions on Summit’s website for the next 30 days. Students will pitch their projects on social channels throughout April to spread the message and inspire their classmates to get out the vote.
“Students today use social media and video to recommend ideas and services to each other and Project Teen Money uses that peer-to-peer learning for financial wellness,” said Kim Sponem, CEO and President of Summit Credit Union. “The students also earn scholarship money in the competition that focuses on spending, saving and avoiding scams.”
The competition is conducted through three of Summit’s in-school branches at Madison’s East, West, and La Follette High Schools, with two students at each school competing to win the grand prize of a $2,500 continued education scholarship. Each remaining participant will receive a $500 scholarship.
Fellow students, families and community members take part in the competition by voting for their favorite videos on Summit’s website starting April 4. The winner will be selected according to vote totals for video submissions along with scoring from an independent panel.
